Reasons to Care Episode 1: Meet the Hosts

Shownotes - Episode One

Introducing Reasons to Care: the amazing new podcast brought to you by Dorset’s disability charity, Diverse Abilities.

We’re really excited to bring the world of care to life and share stories that’ll bust myths, open eyes and question perceptions of what it means to be a carer.

This first episode we’re dedicating to ourselves, hosts Michelle Turner and Clare Rochford, to share our own journeys in care and how we’ve changed lives through our work - and more importantly how it’s changed our lives in return…

This episode covers:

  • Michelle and Clare’s journeys into the caregiving world

  • The breadth of services on offer

  • What we hope to achieve throughout the podcast series

  • Tales from our ‘Happy Jar’

  • The heartwarming stories that have been written throughout our time at Diverse Abilities

Our highlights from this episode…

“Diverse Abilities is Dorset's disability charity. We support children and adults across the whole of Dorset with disabilities, and we've done so for almost the past 70 years.” - 1:20 - Clare Rochford

“I'd never ever been in a job for more than 4 years, but with Diverse Abilities we are really lucky with the people that we support. They definitely get you.” - 7:40 - Michelle Turner

“I was always acutely aware from a young age that we were lucky, we really valued the services around us because it meant we could continue living our lives.” - 9:05 - Clare Rochford

“One of the things I think Diverse Abilities do better than any charity is person-centred care - it’s about taking that individual and making life about them.” - 18:30 - Michelle Turner

“I remember thinking, ‘When else is a child ever going to get to go to a recording studio, and press those buttons and cue people in? What an amazing opportunity!’” - 27:35 - Clare Rochford
